Functional modules take care of the business processes and operations while technical modules take care of the IT technical aspects of the system such as system administration etc. These modules are either technical modules or functional modules. On the other hand, SAP A1 offers a more in depth and wider functionality set of core modules. In addition to these core modules, optional and custom modules can be developed based on business requirements.
SAP B1 offers the following core modules: SAP A1 is meant for the large enterprises where business processes are well defined, multiple operational locations, financial and technical capability to implement a more capital-intensive IT investment. SAP B1 is marketed for Small and Medium Enterprises that have more flexible business processes as SAP B1 offers a cost-effective ERP solution for such enterprises. SAP B1 and A1 are developed and marketed for different target markets. Both A1 and B1 are SAP ERP products but there are a lot of differences between the two products ranging from technical architectural aspects, features and functionality. Some of my fellow SAP consultants as well have had to turn down opportunities because they were meant for B1 whilst the candidate is an SAP A1 consultant and vice versa. But one of the major challenge is that most of them don’t specify whether the role is for SAP B1 or SAP A1. Over the last few years in my SAP career, I have always come across recruiters, HR professionals and managers sharing opportunities for SAP roles.
